NYC Local Law Compliance
New York City has implemented several local laws to ensure buildings meet specific standards for energy efficiency, emissions reductions, and accessibility. Compliance with these laws is mandatory for certain buildings and involves adhering to regulations set forth by the NYC Department of Buildings and other relevant agencies.
Steps to Ensure Compliance
1. Understanding Applicable Laws: Identify which local laws apply to your building based on factors such as square footage, building type, and usage.
2. Benchmarking: Submit annual energy and water consumption data by May 1st using the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.
3. Energy Efficiency Grades: Obtain and display an energy efficiency grade assigned by the NYC Department of Buildings.
4. Emissions Reduction: Implement measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with Local Law 97.
5. Accessibility Upgrades: Ensure your building meets accessibility standards, including lighting upgrades and sub-meter installations as required by Local Law 88.
6. Regular Audits: Conduct regular audits to verify compliance and address any discrepancies.
